DETROIT (AP) — Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer and the Detroit Tigers won their eighth straight game, beating the Houston Astros 3-2 Wednesday night.
The Astros lost its fifth in a row.
Cabrera connected in the first inning. A day earlier, he homered in a four-hit, four-RBI performance. Victor Martinez homered, extending his hitting streak to 10 games for the three-time defending AL Central champions.
Rick Porcello (5-1) allowed two runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings. Joe Nathan pitched the ninth for his seventh save in nine chances, striking out Matt Dominguez with a runner on third to end it.
Brad Peacock (0-3) allowed three runs and four hits in 6 2-3 innings.
ROCKIES 9, RANGERS 2
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nolan Arenado had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 27 games, matching Colorado’s team record, and the Rockies had their third lopsided victory over Texas in as many nights.
Arenado’s two-run double in the first inning put the Rockies ahead to stay and equaled teammate Michael Cuddyer’s record streak from last season.
Carlos Gonzalez homered for Colorado, which has outscored Texas 29-5 in three games this week. The Rockies won 8-2 and 12-1 at home with a combined 34 hits before the teams shifted to Texas for two games.
Every starter had a hit for the Rockies, who finished with 16 and got 12 of them in 3 2-3 innings off Colby Lewis (2-2).
Jorge De La Rosa (4-3) struck out four and walked three. The lefty gave up two runs over six innings.
ORIOLES 4, RAYS 3
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Adam Jones hit a pair of solo homers and Jonathan Schoop launched a tiebreaking, two-run shot that sent the Baltimore Orioles over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Schoop’s drive in the seventh inning off Brandon Gomes (2-2) put the Orioles ahead 4-2.
Jones hit leadoff homers in both the second and fourth off Cesar Ramos. It was his fourth multihomer game.
David DeJesus homered for the Rays, who are 0-4 against the Orioles this season.
Ryan Webb (1-0) went 1 1-3 scoreless innings for the win. Tommy Hunter struggled for the second straight game, pitching the ninth for his 10th save.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Mike Aviles’ two-out single in the ninth inning lifted the Cleveland Indians over the Minnesota Twins.
Asdrubal Cabrera led off the inning with a double against Casey Fien (3-1).
After Lonnie Chisenhall’s sacrifice bunt, Yan Gomes grounded out. Aviles hit a hard grounder into center field for Cleveland’s first walk-off win of the season — the Indians had 11 walk-off wins last season.
John Axford (1-3), who had allowed game-winning home runs in his previous two outings, survived a shaky ninth.
RED SOX 4, REDS 3
BOSTON (AP) — Will Middlebrooks hit an RBI single with the bases loaded, capping a two-run rally in the eighth inning that sent the Boston Red Sox over Cincinnati Reds for a sweep of the two-game interleague series.
David Ortiz and Mike Napoli also drove in runs for the World Series champion Red Sox, who reached .500 for the first time since the fourth game of the season.
Craig Breslow (2-0), who also got the win in Tuesday’s game, pitched one hitless inning. Koji Uehara struck out the final three batters for his eighth save.
J.J. Hoover (1-4) took the loss.
BLUE JAYS 10, PHILLIES 0
TORONTO (AP) — Mark Buehrle became the first six-game winner in the majors, Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run homer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Philadelphia for the seventh straight time.
Erik Kratz and Juan Francisco both hit two-run homers for the Blue Jays, who blew open a pitcher’s duel between Buehrle and Cliff Lee (3-3) with a nine-run, 12-batter seventh inning.
Toronto won its season-high fourth straight.
Buehrle (6-1) allowed three hits in seven innings to lower his ERA to 1.91.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Fill-in starter Drew Pomeranz pitched five scoreless innings for his second win in his past 20 starts and the Oakland Athletics salvaged a split of a doubleheader by beating Seattle.
In the opener, the Mariners overcame a shaky start from ace Felix Hernandez to win on Justin Smoak’s two-out single in the 10th inning.
Yoenis Cespedes homered as the A’s snap a six-game home losing streak.
Pomeranz (2-1) was sharp in his first major league start since last July, allowing two hits and no walks. Jim Johnson got his second save and first since losing the closer’s job a month ago.
Erasmo Ramirez (1-4) was called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day to make the start.
In the first game, Yoervis Medina (2-1) stranded two runners in the ninth for the win, and Fernando Rodney pitched the 10th for his ninth save in 10 chances. Ryan Cook (0-1) took the loss.

CHICAGO (AP) — Gordon Beckham homered for the second straight night and Paul Konerko had a big three-run double, leading the White Sox to a victory over the sliding Cubs.
Jose Abreu collected three more hits as the White Sox roughed up Travis Wood on their way to their fourth straight win, extending their season-best streak. The rookie slugger doubled twice to run his major league-best total to 24 extra-base hits.
The White Sox also got a nice game from shortstop Alexei Ramirez, who singled in a run in the first and made a terrific over-the-shoulder catch to rob Welington Castillo of a hit in the ninth. Ramirez then threw to first to double off Starlin Castro for the second out.

Former Yankee Raul Ibanez pinch-hit in the seventh for John McDonald and snapped an 0 for 18 drought with a single that loaded the bases, after Dellin Betances inherited a 6-1 lead from Nuno. But Collin Cowgill stranded three runners for the second time in the game, lining out to center field.
Jeter got a standing ovation before his final at-bat during the Yankees’ three-run eighth. He hit a fielder’s choice comebacker to reliever Cory Rasmus for a force at the plate after a two-run single by John Ryan Murphy, and Carlos Beltran added a sacrifice fly.
Santiago (0-6) was charged with six runs, five hits and three walks in 2 1-3 innings, throwing 30 of his 58 pitches during the Yankees’ five-run first. Four of the runs were unearned, the result of errors by Santiago and right fielder Cowgill. The left-hander, who was born in Newark, New Jersey, also lost a 4-3 decision on April 26 at Yankee Stadium.
Santiago found himself in a bases-loaded, no-out jam after 13 pitches — and by the time the first inning ended, New York had staked Nuno to a 5-0 lead. Cowgill bumped into Trout on Jeter’s routine flyball as he camped under it, and the ball glanced off Trout’s glove to give the Yankees runners at the corners.
Cleanup hitter Mark Teixeira followed a walk to Beltran with a two-run double inside third base, and Yangervis Solarte hit a sacrifice fly. Brett Gardner made it all the way to second when Santiago fielded his dribbler and threw past first baseman Pujols. A wild pitch followed, and Gardner scored on Brian Roberts’ single.
Jeter made it 6-0 in the second with a two-out drive to left-center for his 257th career homer and first since July 28, 2013, against Tampa Bay’s Matt Moore at New York. In Monday’s series opener, the Yankees’ captain doubled to end a drought of 55 at-bats without an extra-base hit.
Eleven of Jeter’s last 12 home runs have been solo shots, including one against Santiago when he pitched for the White Sox in August 2012.
